Mindfully Derin

Navigating the noise, mindfully

FocusBell is a Chrome extension that helps users notice distracting browsing during a user-started focus session and return to their chosen task.

Information FocusBell processes
During an active focus session, FocusBell reads the URL and domain of the active browser tab so it can compare that domain with the distracting-site list created by the user. FocusBell also processes the task name, distracting-site list, reminder delay, cooldown, sound preference, banner preference, prior work-tab identifier, and temporary session state needed to provide its features.

How information is used
This information is used only to determine when to play the local focus bell, display the FocusBell reminder banner, return the user to a previous work tab, or allow a selected site for the current session.

Local storage and retention
FocusBell stores settings and temporary session state in Chrome’s local extension storage on the user’s computer. The information remains there until the user changes the settings, ends or resets the session, clears the extension’s data, or uninstalls FocusBell.

Information FocusBell does not collect or transmit
FocusBell does not transmit browsing data, task information, site lists, settings, or other user information to the developer or to any remote server. It does not read the contents of webpages, build a browsing-history profile, use analytics or tracking technologies, require an account, show advertisements, or sell or share user information.

Third parties
FocusBell does not share user information with third parties. Its bell audio and interface files are packaged within the extension and do not require an external service.

Permissions
FocusBell uses Chrome permissions for local alarms, local storage, tab detection and navigation, reliable playback of its packaged bell, and display of its reminder banner on sites the user chooses. Website access is requested only as needed for user-selected sites.

User control
Users control which sites FocusBell can access and may stop a focus session, remove a site, revoke site access, clear extension data, disable the extension, or uninstall it at any time.

Children and medical information
FocusBell is a general productivity tool and is not designed to collect personal information from children. It does not collect health information and does not diagnose, treat, or cure ADHD or any other medical condition.

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

If FocusBell’s data practices change, this policy and the Chrome Web Store disclosures will be updated before the changed practices are introduced.
